The challenge
How do we set up our organization so that value-driven thinking and acting is central to our product development?
The approach
Independer was looking for an external expert to help the organization think and act more value-driven. That goal called for a fresh, innovative work process that builds a strong bridge between the current, successful organization and new business opportunities. But how do you set up such a new work process?
Getting started with our Innovation Assessment! We investigated where the business opportunities lay and what converting those opportunities would mean for the Independer organization. We also discussed the current culture of innovation, project governance, and the skills set present among the product developers.
Questions that came up were "Where are the validation needs in terms of new business?", "How can we prioritize based on clear KPIs?", "What does this mean for the way we execute innovation projects?", "How do we guide the colleagues involved to independently implement value-driven thinking and acting?", "What do we emphasize in coaching and communication around this new approach?".
To find the answers, we used a quantitative survey, followed by in-depth interviews and a group assessment among employees, product owners and business owners. With an innovation agenda workshop, we mapped out strategic ambitions and ensured alignment discussions among those involved.
This made it possible to clearly express the differences between stakeholders and executing teams in numbers. What is their vision on what it means to think and act value-driven? Additionally, we were able to guide the conversation to achieve clarity regarding the business ambitions and the impact of realizing them on the organization.
The results were eventually summarized in an implementation roadmap, in which we also translated all the insights into an innovation process to be started immediately.
